Theater Mitu has a great interest in sharing the arts with communities whose exposure to theater is minimal or non-existent as a result of economics, logistics and/or geography. Through our community outreach programs, we hope to engage individuals in these communities who have an interest in exploring art with joy and creativity.
Our work incorporates methods of expression that are familiar and accessible to people with little or no exposure to theater. Mask making, puppetry, shadow puppetry, dance and music are just a few of the many forms that Theater Mitu has shared and seeks to share with interested communities. Mitu works with numerous organizations to develop and design individualized workshops. Each one of these experiences has been challenging and deeply rewarding for all involved.
Theater Mitu is thrilled to continue its community outreach work this upcoming spring as the company travels to upstate New York to engage in an extensive workshop with the resident Migrant workers in Geneseo. Our time will be spent engaging them in reconnecting to their own individual and collective mythology through engagement in the physical as well as music composition and the creation of puppets and masks
