Scott Jumawan-Spahr is a founding member of Theater Mitu and served as Associate Artistic Director for 10 years. Spahr has served as Associate Director and created scenic designs and/or choreography/movement for many works with Mitu including: Juarez: A Documentary Mythology (Rattlestick, NYC, The Stanlee and Gerald Rubin Center for the Arts, El Paso, TX/The Octavio Trias/Juarez, ); The Odyssey (NYU Abu Dhabi/Juilliard); A Dream Play (Abu Dhabi); Waiting (Abu Dhabi); The Ramayana (NYU Abu Dhabi/Bard College); Chaos (The Corniche, Abu Dhabi); Death of a Salesman (properties); DR. C {or How I Learned To Act In Eight Steps} (3 Legged Dog/ Watermill/ Sundance); The ApostleProject (NYTW); Ahraihsak (The Public Theater, Under the Radar Festival); Happy Accident #1 (Ulster County Ballet Festival of Dance); Happy Accident #2 (Patravadi Theater, Bangkok); Catholica (The Lincoln Center Summer Festival); But Above All…(inspired by A. Chekhov, co-writer with R. Polendo/ ChekhovNOW! Festival); The Tutor (based on texts by Brecht and Büchner/ Juilliard). Other Scenic Design credits include: Godspell, A Midsummer Night’s Dream(HHI, Hilton Head Prep); Into the Woods, Charlotte’s Web (MSYT); The Raven Odyssey (Perseverance Theatre); Sleepwalkers (The Alliance); The Hologram Theory (Blue Light). Spahr and various company members teach Mitu’s Training Methodology called Whole Theater at several institutions including: NYU/Playwrights Horizons Studio, Juilliard, Bard College, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, National University of Mexico, Patravadi Theater/Bangkok, and the CUNY- Graduate Program. Other teaching credits include: NYU (Cap 21); The Saugerties Ballet Center: Negoya Ballet; Broadway Dance Center. Directing credits include: Julian Brightman, LIVE! (The Duplex); Songbox (Don’t Tell Mama); The Wrong Pursuit (Trilogy Theater). Performing credits include: (on Broadway) Chicago; On the Town; Jerome Robbins Broadway; (National Tours) Cats and La Cage Aux Folles; (International Tour) Sophisticated Ladies. Spahr was also part of the reconstruction team for the Broadway musical Fosse.
